On the golf course we are participating in a study with Delaware Valley University. They are working with golf courses to study organic matter content, moisture levels content, and firmness in putting greens. The purpose of the study is to find the proper amount of organic matter that should be maintained in a putting green and how it relates to firmness.
But the big story on the golf course is a major change in our bunker maintenance procedures. After years of raking the entirety of the bunkers with rakes with fingers to create fissures, we have changed to what is known as “The Aussie” method. What this consists of is raking the faces of the bunkers with a smooth, fingerless rake and raking the floors or the bottoms of the bunkers with a traditional rake to create furrows. The intent of this method is to have the faces firmer to allow the ball to roll down the slope of the faces to the bottom of the bunker. The look is different, I am still learning to like the look but if it improves playability it is a win win.
Lastly, a friendly reminder that we will be core aerating the greens on August 21st and 22nd. It will be with the small (1/4”) tine that allows for a quicker healing of the greens.
Many thanks to all of you that came out for the Whiskey Tasting! It was an enjoyable and informative evening and a great time was had by all!
Since there are only a few weeks left before the children start heading back to school, you may want to consider that one last family gathering of the summer. Why not let us do the work while you relax and enjoy time with your family and friends. We will be more than happy to customize something special!
As always, I look forward to seeing you at the club. If you have any comments or recommendations of what I can do to improve your experience, please do not hesitate to let me know.
The culinary team in the kitchen has been making strides to satisfy every member’s request. Please feel free to reach out to Taylor or Autumn with any special requests you may have. We are looking forward to a great end of the summer. We have a Lobster Night planned for September, details to follow.
A study was done at Auburn University in Alabama, suggesting that drinking a moderate dose of caffeine could shave two strokes off your score! Not only that, but they say it also helps to drive the ball further.
If this is true, I would suggest lining up outside the Golf Shop to try out our new coffee machine for a complimentary freshly brewed espresso or latte before your next round : )
And, tell all of your friends, family and work colleagues that this is just another example of why The ACE Club is heads above the rest. When they call to inquire about membership, make sure they mention your name, as we are giving away a “Thank You” gift to any member who refers someone who joins our great organization. So… don’t be shy… please give out my contact information to anyone you feel would be a great addition to our club. Thanks for spreading the word… and save the $4.75 that you spend at Starbucks each morning. Coffee is on us!
